Stories from India and beyond, in my words.

Hello. I’m Lakshmi.

A marketer who travels. A traveller who writes. A woman becoming.

Right now I am in Bangalore, living with my mother, raising a 12-year-old who is becoming his own person, walking out of a marriage that needed to end, and learning, slowly, to use a camera and to hold a raga in my humming time and to sit through one Surya Namaskara without thinking about my emails.

I work in growth marketing during the day. I travel across India whenever the weekend gives me room. I will write about all of it here. Not in any particular order.

This is the front door of my small kingdom. Come in.

What is alive this month

Currents.

Reading

And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini during the weekends. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy when I need more images in my head of my childhood. Some books you keep returning to.

Learning

Learning all the camera functions now and how the output looks like. SQL commands to organise and structure the data at work. Reading through slokas that give me infinite peace of mind.

Going

Planning to go to Mulki soon.

Thinking about

What it means to be a single mother to a 12 year old boy. Getting back to Badminton — 34 is never late and you would feel that when you step on the court to hit that shuttle. Why the best marketing ideas I have come from the road, more than my desk.

Grateful for

My mother, every single day. The lamp she lights at dawn and dusk. The friend at work who never forgets to ask me if I ate. He just stood there with me through my quiet. I am finally not 25.

Releasing

The need to be okay all the time. Knowing that 5 year plan was such a fake thing. The way I used to apologise for being me.
